Something about this time of year makes me want to clear the clutter and focus on all the fresh possibilities for spring.
Do you feel that way too?
The season is changing so it’s time to take care of business, create order and use my favorite organizational strategy~my 4 Ds~deal, dump, donate or delight. I’m a firm believer that if something isn’t working for me; give it to someone who can use it. I have actually seen some of my giveaways around town, or at work, and it makes me smile. My best tip is to have a box or bag right in the closet, with a pen and tax itemization sheet for the donations. I even put large plastic trash bags in my basket so that when it is full I can whisk the whole thing away for donation. When I bring in something new I immediately try to place an item in the donate box to keep the balance. In fact, I’m a little bummed if I have to buy a new package of hangers; it’s like a ‘give in’ to not managing my things.
*The deal~hang it, sew it, launder it, steam it and get it back in the game.
*The dump~stained, torn beyond repair, it’s just plain ugly gurrrrrl. You deserve better.
*The donate~if it’s in good shape and you like it, but you just don’t seem to look forward to wearing it~let it go to someone who could use it.
Sometimes I find myself being on the fence about an item and I’ve found the only way to know for sure is to take it out for one more spin. I will know pretty quickly whether or not I ever want to wear it again or donate it for someone else to enjoy.
My closet has needed some good revamping so I took a little time last weekend to do just that. One of my biggest issues is those darn stacks of jeans, sweaters, t-shirts that fall over every time I pull out an item. I found the secret HERE and it is a minor lifesaver.
And with that, things are starting to straighten out a bit in my closet. It always feels good to put together a big bag of donation items for someone in need. It’s a win win all the way around.
What are your plans for the weekend? Some Superbowl with a side of Pinterest??
Do you have any tips for editing your wardrobe?
Cheers to clearing the clutter!
