Travel Tips: The One and Only Travel Essential

Scott and I were scheduled to leave for a winter getaway last Sunday. This tropical paradise, Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya – All Inclusive resort,  recently opened in Riviera Maya and was to be our sunny escape for the week.

Doesn’t this pool look inviting?

If you’ve been following along on the blog you know that we had to postpone our plans due to Scott’s back injury. If you will indulge me, I’m feeling the need to bask in a few moments of this tropical paradise today since it will only live in my dreams for the time being.

We always love a sea view…

What we learned in planning this vacation? The one and only travel essential is to purchase travel insurance. Scott had the presence of mind to purchase ours through Allianz Travel Insurance and we are so glad he did. As it turns out, we are not out any cost for having to postpone (or cancel) our vacation. Paying fees would only add insult to injury for losing out on a vacation.

A bonus of being home most the week is that I have more time for my growing travel concierge business. I have several clients who will be traveling to Unlimited Vacations resorts in coming months. Among them Sarah will be traveling to Secrets St. James Montego Bay in Jamaica and Kim will is headed to Secrets Aura Cozumel.  If you are looking to travel with unlimited luxury at an excellent discount, learn more here. I would love to send you to paradise!

I’m missing the sun, sand and sea this week but we will get back there some day. Our summer visit to Zoetry and Silversands, also in Riviera Maya, are happy memories.  Despite his nearly constant pain, Scott and I managed a long weekend in wine country, and I’ll look forward to sharing some wonderful new finds with you.

I am so sorry to hear about your husbands injury. Hopefully he will heal quickly and you can be on your way to paradise.
I love the traveling that you do, and I always feel as though I have taken a little trip with you.
I am leaving in the morning for Sacramento to see my sweet family!
I loved hearing from you.

So sorry to hear about your husband’s injury and you missing the trip. This is a great post with a wonderful lesson. I don’t think we will travel without insurance again. Hope you have a romantic valentines weekend and Scott is better.

Heather I’m so sorry that Scott is still hurting. I’ve had back issues too and it’s not fun, it really effects your whole life. I sure hope it gets better soon poor guy. And thanks for this tip, I’ve never really thought about travel insurance before. I hope you guys can get back to traveling soon but you’ve got such a positive outlook. I’m glad your new travel biz is going well.

Hi Heather, thank you for sharing these glorious images, being by the water is always my favorite kind of getaway! I hope Scott gets some relief for his pain soon. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers…

You are such a dear…thank you for your kind words. I’m a big fan of beach getaways, too, especially in winter. xx

These are simply stunning. I’m so sorry Scott is is pain. That’s awful for both of you. I always tell my husband to buy it now. I’ve had too many illnesses and accidents not to. Pass my best wishes on to Scott and hugs to you my friend.

Thank you, Jen. I will share your kind words with Scott. He is a tough guy and back at work already. I agree-travel insurance is essential. Enjoy the sunshine today! Xx

Hi Heather,
While its unfortunate that you had to cancel your vacation to Riviera Maya, at least you were able to take a few days off to enjoy the wine country. Scott may still be in pain but a quick getaway is good for the soul. And don’t worry, beautiful Riviera Maya will still be there. You just have something to continue looking forward together once Scott is 100 percent, or at least close to it!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures.

So true! It was good simply to get away and spend some time together without focusing on the pain. The weather was absolutely perfect last weekend! ☀️xx

I so hope that Scott gets well soon and that you can ENJOY a time in the sun, together. HUGS HEATHER! Anita

Thank you, Anita. I’m hoping the same thing. Hugs to you! Xx

Love to hear from you!
