Travel Tips: Resort Wear Essentials

Resort travel is on my mind this week. Scott and I have just re-booked our trip to Riviera Maya (yes!) and I am more than happy to be in packing mode again. The truth about resort wear is that you don’t need much. These are a few of the resort wear essentials I’ve come up with while keeping the rest of my packing to a minimum for this trip. Less is more in a warm, tropical resort environment.

The hat

Any variety of hat is fine to keep the sun off your head but be sure you have one wide-brimmed hat for beach, pool time and touring the local area.

The Color

Colorful blouses, flowy skirts, graphic caftans and floaty sarongs in colorful prints say resort wear like nothing else.

The Maxi

Maxi dressing is effortless and extremely comfortable for tropical travel and resort wear. Dress up a maxi with gold sandals or go barefoot on the sand. Maxi dresses or skirts are essential resort wear.

The LBD

I always toss a little black dress in my suitcase.  At most resorts, there are evening dining options on property. Whether it is in the dining room, beachside, poolside or en suite, slipping into an LBD for dinner adds an instant touch of glamor and sexiness.

The White Collection

White not only looks fresh and sophisticated, it’s the most practical color for wearing on sunny, humid days in the tropics. White won’t absorb the heat and will allow your skin to breathe.

The Accessories

Add couple of bathing suits –I always include a classic black halter suit–metallic sandals, flipflops, sunglasses, statement jewelry and a sarong. A camera is a must for capturing those sunny, tropical resort memories. Pack your favorite sunscreen, passport and a great read and you should be good to go.

Good evening Heather! I love these photos of you in your signature colors, aqua and yellow. A hat, oh is that a must for me. Even when we were in cloudy Carmel, I had my hat. Gotta protect this fragile, fair and yes, AGING skin!

HAVE FUN! Anita

Hi Heather,
this is great news. I am so pleased for you and Scott, that your trip is happening again. I truly believe that Riviera Maya is one of the most relaxing places on earth. There is something so uplifting about planning for a trip to this spot. When I read through your post, I picture you happy, planning not only the beautiful clothes you will wear to dazzle Scott, but thinking of the hot days by poolside, the swimming and drinks and good food. We have written recently about the stress of life, so this a nice break to bring some balance into the mix. xx Nancy

Hi Nancy, You are such a dear! Thank you for your kind words. This winter has been a challenge with Scott’s shoulder surgery and then back injury. Spring weather always helps, doesn’t it? I’m a little in shock that we booked our trip to Isla Mujeres and are leaving so quickly, but that is part of the fun. You and I both love a little color and pretty frock, don’t we? Hope your spring is going well so far. I always love it when you stop by, Nancy!
