A European Getaway
I have had this view of Positano in my mind’s eye for over a year now. In fact, the Amalfi Coast of Italy has been at the top of my travel bucket list for several years. I can’t imagine a place more filled with romance, sensory delights — sea views, terraced villas, colorful umbrellas, savory delicacies, fresh citrus, luscious wines, dancing bougainvillea — than the Amalfi Coast.
These first two images are views from the hotel where Scott and I will be staying in Positano, Alcione Residence.
The tile floors are so quintessentially Italian and I can just imagine they were handcrafted in the neighboring village of Vietri sul Mare. The views from every suite are to die for!
Our next stop will be an authentic Tuscan apartment, Casa Chiara, in the heart of Siena. I would love to bring in a chef to have an authentic Italian cooking lesson in this lovely space.
Can you just imagine?
A few days later we will take the train, and a rental car, to the shores of Lake Como. The home circled in the image, Villa Lina, is where we will be staying. This will be our first visit to both the Amalfi Coast and Lake Como. I always like to explore somewhere new on vacation like this.
It looks so beautiful and cool on the lakeside. Surprisingly enough, Lake Como was Scott’s pick as one of our stays. I agree, it wouldn’t be terribly painful to run into George Clooney and Amal here. Their villa is just a stone’s throw away. It’s nice to be neighborly, just like the time we were neighbors with George in Los Cabos.
Our final stop of this European getaway will be in Paris. We have booked a true Parisian Apartment, recently renovated by my blogger friend, Corey Amaro of Tongue and Cheek blog, and her French husband, Yann.
The address of this picturesque apartment is Rue du Chateau.
Isn’t this the perfect street name for a jewel box of a Parisian apartment?

In Paris Scott and I will celebrate Bastille Day, my 55th a birthday, and my retirement from 33 years in education. Paris is always memorable and feels especially celebratory this trip.
We are busy finalizing travel plans and packing this week. I’m packing more minimally than on previous trips abroad. I packed a number of colorful outfits and handfuls of statement jewelry, for our trip to Portugal and Spain two years ago. As our 3-week trip wore on my luggage felt overloaded .
My theme for this trip is black + white with interchangeable accessories and simple jewelry. We will be staying in homes and villas, rather than hotels, so we will have easy access to washing machines if needed. Besides that, black hides a multitude of sins when traveling — and is always chic — especially in Italy.
I’m always on the look out for stylish, yet comfortable, shoes for travel. I ordered the silver ones, Valencia Atlas, and am so pleased with my purchase. This is the second pair of the Sofft brand that I’ve owned. They needed no breaking in and will definitely be making the trip to Europe with me.
I like this checklist for preparing our home for travel from SimpliSafe experts in wireless home monitoring. For more ideas on worry free travel prep see the blog post here. With our 15-year-old cat, Jack, we always have a house sitter stay over at the house. This is helpful for security as well as for keeping Jack company. In case you are traveling this week, these are some good reminders before you head out.
