We love a beach escape, a city getaway and, from time to time, a country adventure at Stylemindchic Life. This post is dedicated to my country loving travelers and some male readers (I won’t name names;) who also happen to enjoy the solitude and natural beauty of country life.
How to do a weekend in the country in style
With summer just around the corner, there’s no better time to get out of the house, go to the country and enjoy some fresh air. You may find yourself asking, what is there to do in the countryside exactly?
You can walk and cycle in the countryside or hike in the mountains, and horse riding is also a good way to explore the outdoors. There is no better way to enjoy a summer weekend than a picnic with your partner, family or friends. Eating al fresco also offers plenty of opportunities for spotting wildlife. If you’re up for something adventurous, try wild camping. You can also go rowing, sailing, kayaking, fishing, white water rafting, or windsurfing in the lakes and along the coastline.
The weather can be unpredictable, especially in the mountains. Therefore, you need appropriate clothing and equipment to protect yourself in the great outdoors. Here is a list of essential items to bring on your countryside weekend trip:
Whichever outdoor activities you chose, you need a good jacket to protect yourself from the elements. You’ve got a multitude of choices such as lightweight, breathable, waterproof or insulated jackets, depending on your needs. Why not bring in the season in comfort and style with a Barbour jacket? Barbour outlet well-known wax jackets are made for every demographic and style. They are functional yet fashionable, and can be dressed up or down.
Those light walking shoes that you normally wear in the city are not suitable for countryside walk or hike. If you’re heading out for a few hours, you need good hiking boots that give you good traction and protect your ankles. Opt for a pair of waterproof, lightweight hiking boots.
Carry all your necessities such as food, water, and extra layers in your day backpack. The day backpack should have good padded shoulder straps, and remember to keep it simple and minimal.
Sunhat, sunglasses and walking poles
You’ll also need a hat and sunglasses for those sunny days. For those who are hiking, walking, or trekking, poles will make a great difference, helping you with the steeper parts of the walk (I love this idea!).
Bring a durable blanket that is large enough to hold all your picnic-goers and food. Pack some food in lightweight, resealable containers. Bring child-friendly beverages such as bottled water and juices. You may want to bring a bottle of sparkling wine or champagne to go with your picnic. Don’t forget your corkscrew, plates, cups (champagne glasses), forks, spoons, trash bags and napkins.
Mobile phone and map
A fully-charged cell phone and map will come in handy if you want to change your hiking or walking route, or get lost or hurt along the way.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic break for two, or a fun-filled family getaway, there are a variety of things to do in the countryside. Make sure you’re fully prepared for your weekend trip, by bringing the appropriate clothing and equipment…..and a little style.
Does your weekend include a little time in the country?
