In November Scott and I stole away to the charming town of Healdsburg, in the Alexander Valley wine country, to celebrate his birthday. It just so happens to be the spot of our first getaway together, back in 1999, and is a romantic mainstay. We make it a point to return every few years and it was the perfect way to kick off our holiday season this year.
First stop was the h2hotel, our chosen lodging for this trip, where we were warmly greeted by the hip and friendly staff in the comfortable mixed use lobby. The hotel lounge/front desk/Spoonbar Restaurant are all housed in an open concept format adding to the casual vibe.
Within moments we were exploring our modern suite with comfy touches, and private outdoor patio space surrounded by a wall of green bamboo.
The rooms are a blend of modern and vintage with hardwood floors, unfussy furnishings and luxurious linens.
Each suite has a private patio or terrace for lounging. I loved the lime green pop of color on our patio.
h2hotel provides walk in showers with high quality spa products for hair and body. The closets boast hardwood built ins with extensive storage and a pristine white spa robe for each of us. The h2hotel sets the stage for a little romance and they did not disappoint.
We had dinner reservations at Spoonbar on the first level to celebrate the birthday. Jacyln and Justin treated us to a delectable dinner and craftsman cocktails with warm and friendly service and fantastic recommendations.
We happened upon Myra Hoefer Interiors and were enchanted with the french inspired design studio. We were warmly welcomed by this lovely lady, Susanne Bach, who shared the unique pieces as well as Myra’s history of living in Paris. I recognized her style and spotted a number of books by Myra Hoefer. You may also recognize her work from publications like House Beautiful.
More swoon worthy images from Trouvais Blog apartment in Paris designed by Myra Hoefer.
Further exploration in town revealed the iconic ‘Ivy House’ owned by Myra Hoefer here.
All the walking made us hungry and we made the perfect choice with lunch on the patio at Bravas Bar de Tapas. We love spanish style dining with small plates and luscious sangria. Service was friendly and we lingered on that lazy fall afternoon…….. long enough to get relaxed and silly.
I interview Scott about what it takes for a romantic getaway.
How do you say ‘goofballs’ in Spanish?
As for wine tasting, Dry Creek Vineyard was on Scott’s list. Amanda spoiled us with a fine tasting and we ran into friends and colleagues from Chico which made it especially fun. Our final stop was back in Healdsburg at Williamson Wines tasting room where the wine and cheese pairings had been highly recommended. The cheeses were beautifully paired with chutneys and other toppings to enhance the flavors. The Irish cheddar with truffle salt was my favorite and I bought some to recreate the tasting at home here. We have previously stayed at the sister property, Hotel Healdsburg and dined at Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen, both we highly recommend.
Our first stay in Healdsburg was at the romantic Belle du Jour Inn. Hot Tip: If you don’t venture out until 8:30 at night the local coffee shop, Adele’s, may be the only place open for dinner. We learned our lesson on that first visit.
I hope you enjoyed our little getaway to wine country.
Each season has it’s unique beauty to be discovered.
I always love it when you stop by!
We were offered a media rate for our stay at the h2hotel.
Thank you Lauren and staff at h2hotel for making our stay so enjoyable.
All opinions expressed are my own.
Pretty little things at my Stylemindchic Boutique here.
